Accuracy and Fluency Teaching and the Role of Extramural English: A Tale of Three Countries

European learners of English are increasingly using this language recreationally, which is referred to as Extramural (henceforth EE). The level EE use in a given country might be reflected Language Teaching (ELT) practices. Yet, no research so far has examined cross-nationally what potential for learning teachers perceive their learners’ engagement and how relates ELT To address gap, the present study draws on interview data from lower secondary Austria, France, Sweden (n = 20). They were enquired about (1) students’ its effects learning, (2) accuracy fluency teaching methods, (3) perceived link between ELT. Swedish seemed have more positive fine-grained conceptualization impact than Austrian French participants, especially terms grammar acquisition. implicit environment that students encounter extramurally extend classroom, where explicit rules occurs less dominantly samples. countries converged type fluency-based instruction they reported.
